Reading Rambles-An engaging way to support our children with their reading at home and in school.

Reading Rambles-Our Aims.

These are exercise books that go between home and school with the aim of supporting early reading and allowing children to make rapid and sustained progress with their reading skills. We also aim to develop reading for pleasure as books from home as well as school books can be celebrated inside. The Reading Rambles form a communication between home and school adults as both sets of adults write in the Reading Rambles frequently. Children are set termly challenges that they should do at home based around the fiction or non-fiction book they have been given. Children are rewarded daily for their efforts in Reading.

Further information:

In Year 1 we all have Reading Rambles where the same book will be read at home and in school. The Reading Ramble exercise book is where adults at home and school can write comments about the child’s reading. Comments may include things such as which words were challenging, any sounds that were difficult for the child, brief notes on the conversations had about the story or any predictions made.

We would like each book to be read three times before it is changed to help with confidence, fluency and comprehension skills.

Adults in school will set Reading Ramble Challenges based on the story to be completed by the children directly onto the pages in this Reading Ramble exercise book. The Ramble Challenges will be written in blue pen rather than purple so that they are easier to identify.

Please encourage your child to use neat handwriting and correct letter formation when writing in their Reading Ramble. Pencil or pen may be used, but not coloured pens or felt tips please.
