We believe that language is the key to learning. We want our pupils to be secure in reading, writing and speaking and listening skills, as we believe these are necessary tools in order to fully access the broader curriculum. In order to do this, we are going to begin with a focus on speech and language on entry, as pre-school experiences vary enormously. Throughout the school our curriculum provides lots of opportunities for pupils to develop their language skills and we encourage talking for writing, thus enabling our children to articulate their ideas and reasoning, expressing their thinking and opinions clearly in discussion, encouraging collaboration and the exchange of ideas. We aim to develop a consistency in the quality of writing right across the curriculum.
