Geography

Geography at Swaffham Primary Academy

Our Geography curriculum has been designed to develop our pupils’ curiosity and fascination about the world and its people.  We want our pupils to understand where they fit within the world whilst drawing comparisons between their local environment and traditions with people and places from around the world.

As well as developing their locational knowledge, our Geography curriculum provides opportunities each year for the children to expand their knowledge and understanding of the Earth’s physical and human processes; whilst encouraging them to draw their own conclusions by interpreting data from a range of sources of geographical information.

Our Geography Curriculum and Our School Vision:

SHINE:  Through our Geography curriculum, our pupils will be fascinated and curious about the world around them.  They will raise and answer questions about the natural and human world and their involvement in this.

LEARN:  Our sequential Geography curriculum supports our pupils to gradually build the knowledge, skills and understanding to do that and to reflect, at every stage, on how they’re making progress and where they are heading. Along the way, they encounter different societies and cultures, and understand more about the nature of the environment and human habitats.

BELIEVE:  We want our pupils to aspire to be the next explorers, conservationists, meteorologists or sustainability engineers.

BELONG:  Our pupils will explore the world they live in, and how they are connected with it through learning about their local area, the UK and the wider world. They also learn about their responsibilities to protect our fragile local and global environments.

Our aim is that by the time they leave us, our pupils are well prepared to openly discuss and debate how we are all interconnected and interdependent with people and ecosystems throughout the world.
