Languages at Swaffham Primary Academy

Our Languages curriculum has been designed to inspire and excite our children into developing a genuine interest and a positive curiosity to discover the Spanish language. We want our pupils to feel confident and resilient when learning a second language, so they have the skills and vocabulary to express themselves in the wider world. According to the Accredited Language Services, Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world, with over 440 million speakers. We know that teaching Spanish at our academy is the best choice for our children, as they will continue to use their learning beyond KS2.

As well as developing their Spanish vocabulary, our Languages curriculum is designed carefully to encourage children to speak, read and write Spanish. Investigating interesting topics that appeal to our children, they will progress their skills continuously. From speaking the phonetic language, to writing full sentences, our children will feel empowered and successful.

Our Languages Curriculum and Our School Vision:

Shine: Through our Language curriculum, our children will be excited and curious about the Spanish language. Every lesson will encourage pupils to speak, read and write Spanish allowing every child to be included and achieve.

Learn: Our curriculum allows pupils to enhance their knowledge and skills with each new theme they experience. Using an effective and innovative programme, Language Angels, as an effective resource, adults will create an engaging environment where skills can progressively develop. Our lessons offer appropriate levels of challenge and include various opportunities for every learner to achieve right from when they join us in Reception through to when they leave us in Year 6.

Believe: We want our pupils to aspire to travelling to Spain and speaking their language confidently amongst the locals.

Belong: Our pupils will explore the cultural and linguistic differences between two different countries and how their own differs from the other.

Our aim is that by the time they leave us, our pupils will feel able and confident to continue studying languages beyond KS2.
