Governors

In accordance with the Government's requirement for all governing bodies, the 3 core strategic functions of Swaffham CE Primary Academy Governing Body are:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils;
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

Governance arrangements.

The Governing body of Swaffham CE Primary Academy was re-constituted on conversion in 2014 and is now made up of 2 Staff Governors (including the Headteacher), 3 Trust Governors and 2 Parent Governors (current vacancies). Trust Governors are appointed by the Diocesan Board of Norwich (DNEAT) and are people who, in the opinion of DNEAT, have the skills required to contribute to the effective governance and success of the school.

The full Governing Body meets twice each term and two committees meet three times a year to discuss specific areas in more detail. They have monitor finance, consider improvements to the premises and monitor the school's progress against the Single Change Plan. Other matters, such as pupil discipline and staffing issues are considered if required. Governors visit the school regularly to support the headteacher and take part in events.

Our committees are:  Resources & Ethos and Community and Curriculum and Standards.

Could you be a Parent Governor?

We would ideally like a parent (or grandparent) with finance skills or experience that could join our team. It's a rewarding and challenging role that will give you an insight into into the work of Swaffham CE Primary Academy and a chance to make a difference for the children. If you have finance experience, but no children or grandchildren within the school, we can still find a place for you within our team as an Associate member.  Some employers encourage their staff to take on roles within the community, and school governing boards are one way that can be done.

If you think you might be interested then please leave your details at the school office and one of the current team will get in touch for a chat - with no obligation!

Future plans for the governors.

Build on current expertise by attending relevant training courses.  Continue a system of monitoring, and tighten up our recording of those visits.

How you can contact the governing body.

The governors welcome suggestions, feedback and ideas from parents. The Chair of Governors can be contacted via the school office, and will endeavor to respond with 5 school days.
