E-Safety
The world we live in is rapidly changing. Technology has become more and more a part of our daily lives. We need make sure that we have the skills to be able to use technology safely and to take advantage of the many benefits it offers.
At Swaffham CofE Primary Academy we take E-safety very seriously. Our computing curriculum teaches skills explicitly, but staying E-safe is discussed with the children on a regular basis.
Ofsted June 2023:
'Pupils have a good understanding of healthy relationships.'
'Pupils learn how to keep themselves safe when working online or offline and in their community.'
We recommend the following general rules to ensure you stay E-safe at home as well as school.
Ways you can stay E-safe at home...
- Talk about E-safety with your family. It’s important for everyone to be aware of how to keep themselves safe.
- Think about the information that you share online.
- Reduce the amount of time that children spend on the internet – family time is important too!
- Games are rated with an age for a reason – don’t let your children play on age inappropriate games.
- At home your parents can tell you that if anything goes wrong, just report it straight away.
- Don't connect with anyone you don't know, and don't give away any personal details.
- Make sure that your privacy settings protect you from viewing any harmful content.
- Children are often more capable than adults – regularly check that your security settings are at the highest level and haven't been changed.

Ways you can stay E-safe at School
- Our school Internet filter ensures that harmful content is blocked. However, if you see anything online which concerns you in any way, please tell an adult.
- Elements of staying E-safe are part of all aspects of the curriculum where appropriate, with dedicated E-safety lessons in school.
- All staff are trained in E-safety for children and adults.
- We don't allow mobile phones in school. If pupils need to bring a mobile phone in, they must leave it with Mrs Purple in the school office for the duration of the school day.
- We interview children on a regular basis to find out what concerns them. We then speak to parents or adapt our curriculum if necessary.
We have interviewed pupils at our school to find out what the most commonly used popular apps and websites so that we can give specific advice to our families about how to stay E-safe. This is the letter that we sent out to parents recently and that pupils discussed in their classes.
